Beauty and the Beast
The timing had to be just right. I knew I had seen, somewhere, these two trees, an oak blasted by years of Oklahoma weather, and a graceful redbud sheltering under it. I drove around for miles, and finally realized it was within walking distance of my house! I spent an afternoon painting it en plein air, then days polishing it to be a perfect vision of our springtime—all the more poignant because of the dangerous storms.
