Family and Friends

I don't know whether you can see it or not at this resolution, but when I clipped this rose and brought it in to paint, a tiny pale green grasshopper was sitting on the top petal of the rose, and stayed there as one of my stillest models, for all the time I needed to add him in. He gave me the idea to add the butterfly, as an additional "friend," and the family portrait of flowers taped up in the background for "family."

Oil, 8" x 10." Two-inch flat gold-leafed frame.
